چکیده

In order to determine the optimal conditions for humidification of inspired air through a tracbeostomy, tracheostomized dogs were allowed to breathe humidified air, the temperature of which was deliberately varied between 15C and 40°C. At 15°C, the air was saturated lower than 40% but was fully saturated at the other temperatures. Measurements of alveolar ventilation, functional residual capacity, lung compliance, alveolar/arterial Po2 difference, pulmonary shunt ratio, cardiac output and oxygen consumption suggest that satisfactory conditions of lung function obtained when the animals breathed fully saturated air administered at a temperature between 20°C and 30°G

Heated air humidification versus cold air nebulization in newly tracheostomized patients

BACKGROUND After tracheostomy, the airway lacks an essential mechanism for warming and humidifying the inspired air with the consequent functional impairment and discomfort. The purpose of this study was to compare airway hydration with cold-air nebulization versus heated high-flow humidification on medical interventions and tracheal ciliary beat frequency (CBF). METHODS Newly tracheostomized...

Humidification performance of humidifying devices for tracheostomized patients with spontaneous breathing: a bench study.

BACKGROUND Heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs) are commonly used for humidifying respiratory gases administered to mechanically ventilated patients. While they are also applied to tracheostomized patients with spontaneous breathing, their performance in this role has not yet been clarified. We carried out a bench study to investigate the effects of spontaneous breathing parameters and oxygen fl...

Assessment of humidification performance: still no easy method!

All authors agree that humidification of gas delivered to patients during mechanical ventilation is essential.1 The upper airways normally provide 75% of the heat and moisture supplied to the alveoli.2 When bypassed, humidification of the gas is necessary to prevent hypothermia, inflammation of the airway epithelium, bronchospasm, atelectasis, and airway obstruction.1 There is, however, still a...

Respiratory Mechanics and Plasma Levels of Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha and Interleukin 6 Are Affected by Gas Humidification during Mechanical Ventilation in Dogs

The use of dry gases during mechanical ventilation has been associated with the risk of serious airway complications. The goal of the present study was to quantify the plasma levels of TNF-alpha and IL-6 and to determine the radiological, hemodynamic, gasometric, and microscopic changes in lung mechanics in dogs subjected to short-term mechanical ventilation with and without humidification of t...

Experimental investigation of a solar desalination performance based on humidification-dehumidification technique with air and water closed cycle

In this study, the performance of solar desalination by humidification-dehumidification of closed air and water in Ahvaz city was investigated. This desalination includes a collector, condenser, salty water, freshwater tanks, air blower, and water pump. The evaluation of the system was done at three levels of air velocity (3, 4, and 5 m/s) and at three pump discharge levels (2, 4, and 6 liters/...
